The Retirement Education Foundation is a non-profit foundation designed to provide those within 10 years of retirement or in retirement the tools to have the financial literacy they need to be able to enjoy the retirement they have earned.

Through our courses held at University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University (Novi & Troy campuses), and Oakland University we will spend over 7-hours teaching you about income planning, advanced tax planning, social security planning, estate planning, legacy planning, health and long-term care planning, asset allocation through our 4-bucket asset allocation approach, how investments are NOT the #1 factor for outliving your money or not, the keys to becoming a more disciplined investor in the stock market, how to find and evaluate a financial advisor, and so much more...

Your instructor Kirk Cassidy is a nationally recognized speaker and educator. Kirk has also written a quarterly article for Kiplinger, is featured on Fox 2 Detroit, and is the lead instructor for the Retirement Education Foundation. He has helped thousands of people all over the country retire with a comprehensive retirement plan that best fits their needs. He will teach how proper tax planning can help increase asset performance and reduce the chances of retirees outliving their money without taking on greater risk. He has developed an asset allocation model that provides clients with a roadmap to help preserve and distribute financial assets, while also helping to increase their wealth throughout retirement. You will learn from him how this model, which integrates guaranteed* income planning, wealth management, tax-minimization strategies, long-term-care planning and legacy planning can set you up to enjoy the type of retirement you’ve always dreamed of. Kirk has extensive experience in charitable planning and helping retirees utilize charitable strategies that allow them to fulfill their philanthropic goals while more effectively managing tax liabilities in retirement bringing strategies to the middle class that have historically been reserved for the extremely wealthy. Kirk holds a Series 65 securities license, which makes him a fiduciary, as well as a life insurance license in Michigan and many other states.

Your instructor Dr. Paul Metler, Psy.D., MBA, has 20 years of experience in clinical, academic, administrative and executive leadership positions in public and private health care systems. Paul has developed and managed several businesses in both the private and public sector, serves as adjunct faculty at Western Michigan University and has been a guest speaker and presenter on several topics related to aging within hospital, clinical, governmental and business settings. Paul draws on his substantial experience working with retirees and their families, helping them cope with the financial challenges that come with aging and the retirement process. He is well-versed in the issues that arise in the aging process, including decisions regarding health care decisions and end-of-life care. He understands and appreciates the financial, physical, psychological and developmental challenges that often occur during the stage of life when an individual transitions from the working years to retirement and will help prepare you for all these major life events on the horizon. Paul holds a life insurance license in Michigan, a Series 65 securities license, and CDFA® (Certified Divorce Financial Advisor).

Josh Jackson

Your instructor Josh Jackson has spent his entire career in the financial services industry transitioning from a national consulting firm for independent financial advisors where he lead the planning team, to an independent advisor working with those prepping for retirement and those already retired. Over the years Josh has been able to work with advisors and clients to help them plan for the different challenges presented leading up to and in retirement. He will pull from this extensive background to help educate you on all the obstacles that lay ahead and how to best prepare yourself from falling into these traps that many other pre-retirees/retirees let devastate their retirements. Josh holds a Series 65 securities license, MI Life & Health Insurance license, and has earned the RICP® (Retirement Income Certified Professional) designation.

Your instructor Marc Wander is an estate planning attorney. Marc has 28 years of experience practicing estate planning, elder law, and business succession planning. He is a member of WealthCounsel (a nationwide association of Estate Planning Attorneys) and a former President of the Society of Financial Service Professionals-Detroit Chapter. He is a frequent continuing education speaker to insurance agents, financial advisors, CPA’s and financial industry organizations. Marc uses his knowledge and experience to help educate families on how to plan for life, deal with death, resolve potential conflicts, and create a lasting legacy for beneficiaries.
